Two days later, we had no answers. My memory of the time is patchy and foggy, though, so some of this is harder to piece together. There are some things I remember and some I don’t (that’s the patchy part), and there are some things I remember but in a foggy way. I think part of that is the time that has passed, but the other part is a result of what was happening in my brain at the time.
I was a pastor in my church at the time. I actually preached that morning, despite the pain. I wasn’t trying to be heroic or anything… it was more that I didn’t know if what I was dealing with was serious or something small. You don’t just stop living life because you have a sore eye.
That evening, our church held a dinner for Syrian refugees in the area along with anyone who spoke Arabic and wished to connect up.ย Well… that’s not entirely accurate. We allowed people who didn’t speak Arabic to come as well… I don’t speak Arabic (it’s a VERY hard language to learn). The night was an opportunity for our church to meet some of our recent additions to our country.
We had about fifty people out, and it was a great evening, although by that point my eye was swollen and the pain was intense. During the event, I don’t remember much about the pain (other than that it hurt). The evening was far too special.
What I do remember is after everyone left, my head and my eye just ached. Things were getting worse.
To be continued…
